This
show was every boy’s dream – a gadget show for Bravo UK
where the brief was if it’s a cool gadget, it’s in.
Which
is how we came to find ourselves with brilliant host Liz Bonnin strutting
up and down the world’s largest private jet (which will fly you round
the world in two stops), a sports car which converted into a speed boat
and a racing car you can build yourself.
It’s
shows like these which make working in tv such a great job. Ironically, it
was also incredibly stressful as the gadgets were usually in a
pre-production state, in huge demand for filming and very hard to produce
on the right day.
Although
the shows were all prerecorded it was the closest to my weekly music
newspaper days – the week went like this: read the research and write
the camera scripts over the weekend. Shoot on Monday and Tuesday, edit
Wednesday and Thursday, record the voiceover and do the sound dub on
Friday then start the whole process again on the Saturday.
I
didn’t have a day off or talk to my wife for three months but it was
great fun and has been much imitated since, which is always flattering.
